This Year's Projects
2020

The mission of Charlotte's Purpose is to support those grieving after stillbirth.  Statistically, African American women are 2.2 times more likely to suffer a tragic loss like this in the United States.  This is why many of our 2020 projects are focused on the Black community.  We believe that small kindnesses can have a big impact on the future of our country, even in terms of affecting something as daunting as the systemic racism which is at the root of the racial disparity in stillbirth rates.  Here are a few ways we intend to affect positive change in 2020:

🦊 BOOK DRIVE TO INCREASE DIVERSITY IN K-8 CLASSROOM LIBRARIES AT M.G.A.
Equity begins with understanding and understanding begins with exposure to experiences that are different than our own.  There is no better place to begin exposing children to a wealth of human experience than through literature.  This team will collect K-8 level children's books that feature Black and Brown authors, main characters, and culture.   Books will be donated to Monarch Global Academy to be added to classroom libraries for all students to enjoy.  Every child deserves to see themselves reflected in the books they choose, and every child benefits from a diverse library.
We have selected MGA as the recipient school for several reasons. First, MGA has a diverse community of learners. We believe that every student deserves to see themselves reflected in their classroom library and that every child benefits from diverse children's book offerings. Second, The MGA community supported our family when Charlotte died in 2017 and continues to be an important part of our grief support system. Finally, Charlotte's older brothers are students at Monarch Global and we know that she would have been too!

You can support this project by purchasing a "Human. Kind. Be Both" tee through our Custom Ink fundraiser or by purchasing books from our Amazon Wish List.  You can also donate new or used books to us directly by mailing them to:

🦊 IMPROVE THE CHARLOTTE'S PURPOSE GRIEF RESOURCES
This team will research needs and resources specific to those in the Black community who are grieving a stillborn child.  Research will be used to design more inclusive grief resources as well as strip implicit bias away from the grief resources provided on the Charlotte's Purpose website and in the Wrapped in Love care packages.  If you are interested in joining our team of researchers and/or sharing your experience as a member of  the Black stillbirth community, please email us at charlottespurpose@gmail.com.

🦊 REMEMBRANCE HIKE
On October 24, 2020,  local members of the Charlotte's Purpose Kindness Crew will go on a Remembrance Hike.  Hikers will scatter seed paper leaves with the names of stillborn babies along the trail to honor these loved and missing little ones.   Our Crew members say each name out loud as we carefully write them on seed paper, and again as we choose a place to "plant" each name.  Last year we remembered more than 300 babies.  Please fill out this brief Google form share the name of a baby you would like us to remember.  There is no cost to adding a name to our Remembrance Hike.

🦊 MORE PROJECTS COMING SOON!
We are currently looking for projects, leaders, and volunteers for the 2020 Weekend of Kindness.  Projects may be as simple as a single act of kindness or as big as an organized project.  Projects may involve kindness toward any person, place, or thing that you choose.   Anyone who completes an act of kindness in honor of Charlotte is an appreciated member of our Kindness Crew, so come join us!  Need ideas?  Visit A Few Kind Ideas for a diverse and growing list of ways to be kind.

If you are interested in having Charlotte's free Kindness Cards mailed to include with your acts of kindness or if you have questions, please email us at charlottespurpose@gmail.com.
