Music

It was difficult to find music that seemed appropriate for my baby's memorial.  Many traditional funeral songs are a tribute to the beautiful life that the deceased lived.  They talk about holding onto memories and looking at pictures.  We didn't have any of that with Charlotte, just the excitement of waiting for her and the promise of who she would become.   I looked for music that portrayed this hope and love, but also had a quality of sadness to it.  The following is the list of songs that we played at Charlotte's memorial.   You can click on each song to open a Youtube link and listen to it.

As people arrived:
Break (Selah Sue)
Yesterday (Beatles)
One More Day (Diamond Rio)
Make You Feel My Love (Adele)
Tears from Heaven (Eric Clapton)   *Eric Clapton wrote this song after his four year old son's death.
Songbird (Eva Cassidy)
Hallelujah (Jeff Buckley)

During the service:
Small Bump (Ed Sheeran)  *Ed Sheeran wrote this for a friend who experienced a stillbirth at five months pregnant.
Sanctuary
 (Lennon & Maisy)

As people left:
Nobody Knows (Lumineers)
Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Israel Kamakawiwo’ole)
Blackbird (Beatles)
You are my Sunshine (Jasmine Thompson)

Sea of Love (Cat Power)
Goodnight my Angel (Billy Joel)

In My Life (Beatles)
Smile (Nat King Cole)

Other songs that you might consider:
Gone Too Soon (Daughtry)
Photograph (Ed Sheeran)
Halo (cover by Jasmine Thompson)

Akina Marie Ledbetter is a singer/songwriter and fellow loss-mom.  She is working on a 10 song album entitled, "Chloe's Purpose: Love-Light-Healing-Faith" that will be available on Chloe's first birthday, October 25, 2018.  "
My dream is to record these songs and make a full album dedicated to my daughter-who's purpose on this earth was one of love, light, faith, and healing.  I want these songs to be available for download for free, so that grieving mothers & fathers, grieving families, and people who are searching for comfort, can have and keep these songs.
